Piri Ries

Upon reading about the life of Piri Reis, the famous admiral of the Turkish fleet, the artist became obsessed with the phenomenon surrounding the admiral’s maps. The puzzling question of how this admiral could draw maps of an area, 300 years before it was discovered, haunted this rug designer. Such curiosity led the artist to design this rug, based on Piri Reis’s original map drawn on a gazelle skin.
